



Caroline Älvebrink Calais was born in Sweden and is a naturalized American citizen. She received her B.Sc. in Sociology from Uppsala University, a Certificate of Journalism from Poppius School of Journalism, Stockholm, a MA in Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, and a MS in International Political Economy from University of Texas at Dallas.
After a career as a model, Caroline started at Texas Instruments International Trade Corporation’s consumer division in Stockholm, where she played a major role in the development of key strategic marketing activities.
In 1992, Caroline moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where she provided coverage and correspondence concerning political and economic issues for “Svenska Dagbladet”, Stockholm. She also engaged in economic and educational support for school-aged children in deprived areas by soliciting donations from the business community, embassies and elite members of Venezuela.
In combination with her studies at the University of Texas, Caroline has worked as a Research-and Teaching Assistant. She taught break-out sessions at the undergraduate level and provided research assistance for faculty members.
She was also a Research Fellow at the American Center for International Policy Studies, publishing articles on the political situation in Venezuela; on the correlation between sick-leave and unemployment in Sweden, and has done a comparison of Telecom Policy in the United States and Europe – a work recently cited by the Colombian Government’s Telecom Commission CTC.
On her free-time Caroline enjoys horseback riding and has an American Quarter Horse “Rock A Doc ”. She also likes spending time with her two dogs – Byron a three colored Afghan hound, and Freja a mutt adopted from SPCA.
